About Dennis Conner
Dennis Conner earned the title “Mr. America’s Cup” after capturing four America’s Cup championships and a bronze medal at the 1976 Olympics as a yachtsman. Conner won his first America’s Cup championship in 1974 and went on to win three more tiles in 1980, 1987 and 1988. A native of San Diego, California, Conner grew up on the water and made sailing his life. During his career he became one of the most decorated yachtsman in the history of the United States, winning 28 World Championships in route to winning U.S. Yachtsman of the Year honors in 1975, 1980 and 1986 and being named San Diego Yachtsman of the Year seven times. In 1987 he was named ABC Wide World of Sports Athlete of the Year and went on to earn induction into the America’s Cup Hall of Fame, and U.S. Sailing Hall of Fame. In 1987 he earned honorary doctorate degrees from both Green Mountain College and the University of South Carolina.
