About Dawn Fraser
Dawn Fraser is the greatest Olympic swimmer in Australia history and considered one of the greatest female swimmers of all-time. By winning gold in the 100-meter freestyle at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, 1960 Rome Olympics and 1964 Tokyo Olympics she became the only swimmer to win gold in the same event in three consecutive games. In 1956 she also won gold in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay and also added four silver medals from 1956 to 1964. Fraser’s many honors include being named Australian of the Year in 1964, being made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1967 and being appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1998. In 1985 she was inducted into the Australia Hall of Fame as their first female member and named Australian Female Athlete of the Century. In 1999 she was also named World’s Greatest Living Female Water Sports Champion by the International Olympic Committee.
