About David Braun
David Braun orchestrated a remarkable turnaround for the Northwestern football program. Braun replaced legendary Wildcats player and coach Pat Fitzgerald prior to the 2023 season and led the program to a 7-5 record. That mark for NU came following a 1-11 2022 campaign. With Northwestern qualifying for a bowl game for the first time since 2020, Braun was the shoo-in choice for Big Ten Coach of the Year.
Braun was hired for the season as defensive coordinator before stepping in for Fitzgerald. He had previously never coached at the FBS level, but did serve as coordinator at FCS power North Dakota State from 2019-2022. Braun also spent time coaching at Northern Iowa, UC Davis, Culver-Stockton and his alma mater, Winona State.
