About Bret Bielema
Bret Bielema is the head coach at Illinois. Like most football coaches, Bielema was originally a player, playing defensive line for theUniversity of Iowa Hawkeyes. After graduating,Bielema played one season for the Milwaukee Mustangsin the AFL before returning to Iowa as an assistant coach,serving in this role for eight years until leavingto become defensive coordinator at Kansas State in 2002. He took the samerole at Wisconsin in 2004,and was promoted to the head coaching position after Barry Alvarez’s retirement. In his first season asWisconsin’s head coach, Bielema led the Badgers to an 11-1 record with a victory in the Capital OneBowl. His next few seasonsat Wisconsin would be successful, as he would win three straight Big 10 titlesin 2010, 2011, and 2012. In December of2012, it was announced that Bielema would leave Wisconsin tobecome the head coach at the University of Arkansas.He led the Razorbacks for five seasons and won two bowl games. Bielema served as a defensive consultant for the New England Patriots before he taking the job at Illinois.
