About Darin Erstad
During his playing career, Darin Erstad was known as one of the hardest working players in baseball. In 14 seasons, Erstad was a two-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove winner while patrolling the outfield for the Anaheim Angels. It was fitting in 2002 that he caught the final out in the Angels World Series win over the San Francisco Giants. That postseason, he hit .421 in the ALDS, .364 in the ALCS, and .300 in the seven game Fall Classic. His last Gold Glove in 2004 was actually won at first base making Erstad the first player to win the award as an infielder and outfielder. The Angels originally selected him out of Nebraska with the first overall pick of the 1995 MLB Draft. Erstad was one of the best players in Cornhuskers’ history, setting a team record for career hits and getting All-American honors as a junior. He also won a national championship in 1994 as the punter on Tom Osborne’s football team. Following his playing career, Erstad returned to Nebraska and joined the baseball coaching staff. He has been the head coach since 2012 and led the team to an NCAA Regional in 2014.
