About Danny Sprinkle
The University of Washington employs Danny Sprinkle as its head men’s basketball coach who leads the Huskies through their Big Ten transition. Through his father Bill Sprinkle who played defensive back for the Washington football team from 1965 to 1968 Danny Sprinkle maintains strong connections to Seattle.
As a standout multi-sport athlete at Helena High School in Montana he later played at Montana State University (1995–99) where he received Big Sky Freshman of the Year honors and established school records for three-point shooting. Sprinkle earned his degree in health and human development during his 2000 graduation from Montana State University.
Sprinkle started his coaching career at Cal State Northridge in 2000 as a graduate assistant before moving to Cal State Fullerton where he contributed to three NCAA Tournament appearances during his extended time at the university. His return to Montana State University in 2019 led to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (2022 and 2023) and two Big Sky regular-season titles and tournament championships. The Big Sky Coach of the Year award went to Sprinkle in 2022 as he made Montana State history by leading the team to back-to-back 25-win seasons.
After joining Utah State in April 2023 he led the team to a 28-7 season while winning the Mountain West regular season title and earning both the Mountain West Coach of the Year and Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year finalist awards and an NCAA Tournament victory since 2001.
The University of Washington announced Danny Sprinkle as its head coach on March 25, 2024 by offering him a six-year contract. Sprinkle brings proven success in rebuilding mid-major programs and energetic leadership along with strong Pacific Northwest connections to the Huskies.
The coaching world respects Danny Sprinkle because of his player-centered approach and his success in building winning teams quickly and his reputation for developing players as well as their character. Through his regional roots and his successful college career and his competitive nature he leads Washington toward a new era as a transformative force in sports.
