About Curtis Joseph
Curtis Joseph is known for his time as a professional ice hockey player. As a Canadian goaltender, Joseph is the record-holder for having the most career wins without ever playing on a Stanley Cup-winning team. He is also the first goaltender in NHL history to obtain 30 or more wins in a regular season for five different teams.
Joseph was born to two unmarried teenage parents in Canada in 1967 and was ultimately put up for adoption. Having a great support system with his adoptive family, he took up the sport of hockey and legally changed his name.
Joseph played one season at the University of Wisconsin and was signed by the St. Louis Blues. He made his NHL debut the following season and was with the Blues for six years, making his first All-Star appearance with the franchise in 1994.
Joseph played for five other franchises, but left his greatest mark with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In addition to back-to-back All-Star selections with the Leafs, he also won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2000.
In 2008, Joseph recorded his 450th victory in a brief second stint in Toronto. He retired after the season ranking 5th in league history with 454 wins. Joseph was also a part of the Canadian team that won gold in the 2002 Olympics and is a member of the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame.
