Christopher Hegardt is a star for Charlotte FC who has overcome the odds to reach the top of his sport. Hegardt was sent to the hospital in 2009 following a youth soccer game, where it was discovered he had cancer following the rupture of a tumor in his liver. He underwent six rounds of chemotherapy and a liver transplant before returning to the pitch. Hegardt went on to play in college for Georgetown. He came up professionally with the Tacoma Defiance before joining Charlotte.
