About Alecko Eskandarian
Alecko Eskandarian was a two-time All-Star during his nine-year MLS career. D.C. United originally took him first overall in the 2003 MLS Superdraft and Eskandarian would star for four seasons in our nation’s capital. In 2004, the team won the MLS Cup and he was MLS Cup MVP with two goals scored in the game against the Kansas City Wizards. That season saw Eskandarian also lead the club in goals. He also played with Toronto FC, Real Salt Lake, Chivas USA, and the Los Angeles Galaxy. Eskandarian had one cap with Team USA in 2003 against Wales. At the University of Virginia, he won the Hermann Trophy in 2002 given to the nation’s best player. Eskandarian was a Cavaliers assistant coach upon retiring as a player. He also served as an assistant coach for the NASL’s New York Cosmos and head coach for their reserve team, New York Cosmos B. Eskandarian currently works as an executive in the MLS office. His father, Andranik, played for the Cosmos and the Iranian National Team.
