Bud Selig

Bud Selig was one of the longest tenured commissioners in baseball history.  Selig served in his post from 1992 to 2014.  The sport radically changed during this time and revenues for MLB clubs skyrocketed.  Most notably, Selig ushered in the wild card era, interleague play, instant replay, and performance-enhancing drug testing.  Under his watch, 19 new stadiums have opened up to boost franchise valuations even higher.  The game has also exploded globally, with more players coming from talent rich pools in Japan and Latin America than ever before.  During the last 20 years of his commissionership, baseball experienced a period of labor peace.  Selig still serves as Commissioner Emeritus of Baseball.  He originally became the commissioner after owning the Milwaukee Brewers franchise since their inception in 1970.  Selig also served as team president.  For his efforts to bring baseball back to his hometown, he has been elected to the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame and has a statue outside the Brewers’ Miller Park.  In semi-retirement, Selig is now an adjunct professor at Marquette and Wisconsin.
