About John Smoltz
John Smoltz is one of the greatest pitchers in Major League Baseball history. From 1988 to 2009 he enjoyed a successful 21-year big league career with the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. He is best known for his time with the Braves from 1988 to 2008, where he earned eight All-Star selections, the NL Cy Young Award in 1996, a Silver Slugger Award in 1997, and the NL Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Award in 2002. In 1992 he was named the NLCS MVP and led the Braves to a World Series title in 1995. Smoltz signed with the Red Sox in 2009 and retired with the Cardinals later that season. He is the only player in MLB history to tally 200 or more wins and 150 or more saves, and finished his career with a sparkling 3.33 ERA and 3,084 strikeouts in 3,473 innings pitched. One of the highlights of his career came in 2005 when he was awarded the Roberto Clemente Award for his work in the community. The Braves retired his legendary No. 29 jersey in 2012, and in January 2015 it was announced that he would be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
