About Bruce Smith
Bruce Smith began his legendary NFL career in 1985 after a standout collegiate career at Virginia Tech University in which he earned First-Team All-American honors in 1983 and 1984 and the 1984 Outland Trophy as the NCAA’s top interior defensive lineman. In 1985 he was selected No. 1 overall by the Buffalo Bills in the NFL Draft and played the first 14 seasons of his career in Buffalo, earning 11 Pro-Bowl appearances and 11 All-Pro selections. In 1990 and 1996 he was named the AP Defensive Player of the Year and was a four time UPI AFC Defensive Player of the Year in 1987, 1988, 1990 and 1996. From 1990 to 1993 he helped lead the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances as the captain of their defense. For his contributions to the Bills and the National Football League during his career he was named to both the NFL 1980’s ad 1990’s All-Decade Teams and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009.
