Joey Votto Biography

Joey Votto was born and raised in Toronto, Canada and joined the Cincinnati Reds as a second round selection in the 2002 MLB First Year Player Draft. After five seasons in the minor leagues he made his MLB Debut in 2007 and quickly became one of the top players in the league. During his first full season in Cincinnati he hit .297 and launched 24 homeruns in route to finishing as the runner-up in the 2008 NL Rookie of the Year voting. Two years later he earned National League MVP honors after hitting .324 with 37 homeruns, 113 RBI, and 106 runs batted in. Since that time he’s been a perennial All-Star and established himself as the top hitting first baseman in the league. In 2010 he earned the NL Hank Aaron Award and won his first Gold Glove in 2011. Thus far in his young career he has hit .310 with 163 homeruns and 553 RBI and 561 runs scored in seven major league seasons.
