Brian Hoyer Biography

Brian Hoyer is an NFL quarterback who currently on his third stint with the New England Patriots. In high school, Hoyer was considered a top quarterback recruit, and he signed with Michigan State University in 2004, redshirting his first season. In four seasons as a Spartan, Hoyer started 39 games, throwing for over 6,000 yards and 35 touchdowns. Following his graduation, Hoyer entered the 2009 NFL Draft, but he was not picked, leading to him signing an undrafted free agent contract with the New England Patriots immediately following the draft. Stuck behind future Hall of Famer Tom Brady, Hoyer saw no regular season time with the Patriots, and was eventually released from the team in 2012, signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers just two months later, serving a backup role for two months before being released again. Hoyer would go on to spend a season with the Arizona Cardinals before signing with the Cleveland Browns, where he would take over the starting job in 2013, playing four fantastic games before tearing his ACL. In 2014, Hoyer started 13 games.
