About Bobby Bonilla
Bobby Bonilla played 16 seasons in the big leagues with the Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles, Florida Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals from 1986 to 2001. During his time in the league he won three Silver Slugger Awards in 1988, 1990 and 1991 while playing for the Pirates and helped the Marlins to a World Series title in 1997 in route to winning six career All-Star selections. His best season came in 1991 when he hit a combined .329 with 28 homeruns, 37 doubles, 99 RBI and 96 runs scored while playing for both the Mets and Pirates. He retired in 2001 with a solid .279 average and 287 homeruns to go along with 1,173 career RBI. Bonilla signed a long-term contract with the Mets in 1992, however he deferred much of that contract until 10 years after his retirement to ensure long-term financial stability for himself and his family. In 2011 he began collecting on that deferment, which pays him $1.19 million per year through 2035.
