About Bob Stevens
Bob Stevens was born and raised in Warsaw, Indiana and played his prep basketball at Sidney High School before going on to star at the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. During his college career he served in World War II with the Marine Corps and went on to serve again in Korea after earning his degree from Michigan State in 1949. Upon being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps he became the head basketball coach at Milford High School in Indiana and eventually worked his way up to being named the head coach for Michigan State’s freshman team. After serving as a full-time assistant at Michigan State he was hired as the head coach at the University of South Carolina in 1959 and led the Gamecocks to 15 wins in 1962 in route to being named the ACC Coach of the Year. Stevens would go on to become the head coach at the University of Oklahoma and is known for the aggressive nature of his teams and their fast running style.
