Bob Pettit Biography

Bob Pettit played 11 seasons in the NBA with the Milwaukee and St. Louis Hawks from 1954 to 1965 after being selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 1954 NBA Draft out of Louisiana State University.  During his time at LSU he earned All-American honors in 1953 and 1954 and went on to become the first Tiger to ever have his jersey retired by the university, earning that honor in 1954.  During his NBA career he earned All-Star and All-NBA honors every season of his career, was named the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1955, the NBA MVP in 1956 and 1959, led the league in scoring inn 1956 and 1959 and led his team to an NBA Title in 1958.  Pettit was named to the NBA 25th, 35th and 50th Anniversary All-Time Teams and had his legendary No. 9 jersey retired by the Hawks.  Pettit was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1970.
