About Alex Sarr
Alexandre “Alex” Sarr represents the Washington Wizards as their French professional basketball player in the NBA. Born on April 26, 2005, in Bordeaux, France, he stands 7 feet tall and plays the center position. At age four he started playing basketball because his family had strong involvement in the sport. The professional basketball career of Olivier Sarr precedes that of his younger brother Alexandre Sarr. The first stop for Alex was Bordeaux followed by Toulouse before he joined Real Madrid's youth team in 2019 to develop his basketball skills.
The 2021 season brought him to the United States where he joined Overtime Elite as a player development program for young athletes entering professional basketball. The following year, he played for the YNG Dreamerz, further honing his abilities. In 2023, Sarr joined the Perth Wildcats in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL) through the NBL Next Stars program. During the 2023–24 season, he averaged 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game, showcasing his defensive prowess and versatility. His performance in the NBL solidified his status as a top NBA prospect.
The Washington Wizards drafted Sarr as their second overall pick during the 2024 NBA Draft in June. His NBA debut occurred in October 2024 and he secured All-Rookie First Team recognition for the 2025 season. The NBA recognizes Sarr as an emerging talent because of his exceptional defensive skills and his ability to move freely on the court and extend his shooting range.
