Veteran Sportswriter Bob Ryan Speaks at Catawba Baseball First Pitch Dinner January 14th

On January 14th, Catawba baseball is having their annual First Pitch Dinner. Noted sportswriter Bob Ryan speaks at the event which will be held at the Abernathy Physical Education Center's Gordon A. Kirkland lobby on campus.

In addition to Ryan, former MLB All-Star Darryl Strawberry will be a special guest. Tickets to attend are $70.

Proceeds directly go towards the 2017 baseball team. It should be a great night of storytelling with Ryan sharing highlights from his iconic writing career.

Ryan has been writing for The Boston Globe since 1968. While he has retired as a columnist at the paper, his work still appears in the sports section semi-regularly.

After starting as a Globe intern, Ryan became the paper's Boston Celtics beat writer. In 1982, he became a columnist and covered 20 NBA Finals, 20 NCAA Final Fours, nine World Series, seven Olympics and five Super Bowls.

Ryan has become well known to the country as a regular guest panelist on the ESPN shows, "The Sports Reporters" and "Around the Horn." On four occasions, the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association named him their National Sportswriter of the Year.
