About Luis Gonzalez
Luis Gonzalez played for six major league teams, but gained the most notoriety as a key contributor to the early success of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gonzalez was a five-time All-Star and had the game-winning hit in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series against the New York Yankees. His #20 is retired in Arizona. During his time in the desert, Gonzalez led the National League in hits in 1999 and blasted 57 home runs in 2001. The Tampa, Florida native originally came up with the Houston Astros and also played for the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Florida Marlins. He collected over 2,500 hits in his career. In his post-playing career, Gonzalez has remained active. He joined the Diamondbacks front office as special assistant to the president and co-founded a social networking company called IsTalking LLC. He has been a television broadcaster. Gonzalez serves on the board of the Baseball Assistance Team, which gives financial support to ex-ballplayers.
