Baseball Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez to Make Appearance at UMass Dartmouth Fundraiser

One of Boston's sports legends is coming to UMass Dartmouth. Baseball Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez is the special guest for the Center for Marketing Research's 19th annual Annual Celebrity Scholarship Dinner.

At the event, Martinez will sign purchase autographs and mingle with attendees at a live auction and dinner. The festivities draw between 400-600 people and take place May 1 from 6-9 p.m. at the Venus de Milo.

Last year, David Ortiz's appearance resulted in a record crowd. The event has also featured great Boston athletes like Bill Russell, Carlton Fisk, Dennis Eckersley, Troy Brown and Ty Law

Martinez had one of the most dominant runs in baseball history while with the Red Sox. He won the American League Cy Young in 1997, 1999 and 2000, led the league In ERA five times and strikeouts three times.

Overall, Martinez was an eight-time All-Star. He helped Boston erase an 86-year drought by winning the World Series in 2004.

In addition to being a Hall of Famer, Martinez's jersey is retired by the Red Sox. He has been an analyst for MLB Network in retirement.
