About David Ortiz
David Ortiz was one of the most feared hitters and clutch performers of his generation. Ortiz enjoyed an amazing journey from the Dominican Republic to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Along the way, he became a ten-time All-Star and an icon for the Boston Red Sox. Ortiz was a key cog in the Boston team that broke an 86-year championship drought in 2004 and overall won three World Series. That year, he was MVP of the American League Championship Series. Ortiz would also go on to be World Series MVP in 2013.
A seven-time Silver Slugger Award winner, Ortiz is perhaps the greatest designated hitter in baseball history. He collected over 2,400 hits and belted 541 home runs. Ortiz led the AL in homers in 2006 and was a three-time league leader in RBI.
Prior to making his legacy in Boston, Ortiz came up to the majors with the Minnesota Twins from 1997-2002. The Seattle Mariners originally signed him into pro baseball out of the Dominican as a 17-year-old in 1992.
Ortiz is a member of the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame and has his #34 jersey retired by the franchise. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2022. Ortiz remains a visible part of the game as an analyst on FOX Sports studio coverage.
