About Whit Merrifield
Whit Merrifield is a star second baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays. Merrifield originally debuted with the Kansas City Royals Royals in 2016, but truly became a standout the following season. In 2017, he led the American League 34 stolen bases while also hitting .288 with 19 home runs and 78 RBI. A year later, Merrifield again led the league with 45 steals and also paced all AL players with 192 hits. The Royals originally selected him in the ninth round of the 2010 MLB Draft after a banner college career at the University of South Carolina. Merrifield helped lead the Gamecocks to a College World Series victory in his final season. He hit the game-winning RBI single in extra innings to give them the championship. Over three seasons at USC, Merrifield hit .329 and added 27 home runs. His strong college career was not the only indication of future baseball success, however. Merrifield's father, Bill, also played in the major leagues for six years.
