About Vivian Stringer
Vivian Stringer is one of the most successful female coaches in the history of women's college basketball. Stringer retired in 2022 after 50 years in coaching and over 1,000 victories. She began her head coaching career in 1971 at Cheyney State College (now Cheyney University) where in 12 seasons she compiled a record of 251-51 and made her first trip to the NCAA Final Four. She then moved to the University of Iowa where brought the Hawkeyes basketball team to glory, making 9 straight NCAA Tournament appearances which included 2 Elite Eight runs and a Final Four run in 93. In 1995, she took over the head coaching position at Rutgers. With the Scarlet Knights, she has a 535-291 record with 2 Final Four appearances including a chance at the National Championship in 2007. She was the first coach in NCAA history to take 3 different schools to the NCAA Final Four. In 1993 she was awarded the Naismith College Coach of the Year award and is a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame as well as the Basketball Hall of Fame.
