Tony Hawk

Also known as "The Birdman," Tony Hawk is a renowned professional skateboarder. Hawk began to skateboard as a child which served as an outlet for his excessive energy, and his skills quickly began to develop. By the age of 14 Tony turned professional and went on to win the National Skateboard Association world championship twelve consecutive years. Tony has also excelled in the X Games, where since 1995 he has accumulated 2 bronze medals, three silver medals, and 9 gold medals in the competition. He is also widely recognized for becoming the first skater to land a “900” which is a trick involving the completion of two and a half mid-air revolutions on a skateboard. In 1999 Tony retired from professional competitions, but to this day he still tours North America to do personal skate shows. Since his retirement he has also been invited to President Obama's 2009 Father's Day celebrations where he became the first person with permission to skate on the White House grounds.
