About Tom Allen
Tom Allen is the defensive coordinator at Clemson. The Tigers hired him after serving in the same position for a year Penn State and helping them reach the College Football Playoff.
Allen previously was the head football coach at Indiana University from 2016-23. Allen had back-to-back winning seasons with the Hoosiers from 2019-20. He was named Big Ten Coach of the Year and the AFCA Coach of the Year in 2020. Before ascending to the head coaching position in Bloomington, Allen spent one year as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator, coaching six players to All-Big Ten honors.
Allen had prior coaching experience on the Division 1 level at the University of Mississippi, Arkansas State, and USF. He got his first opportunity in college coaching in 2007 at Wabash College and went on to stints at Lambuth and Drake. Allen spent several years at the high school level, first in Florida and then Indiana.
