About Teresa Perales
Teresa Perales is a Spanish Paralympic swimmer and motivational speaker. At 19, she lost leg mobility due to neuropathy and began swimming, becoming a Paralympic legend. She has won 28 medals across seven Paralympic Games over a quarter-century, matching Michael Phelps' Olympic record, including seven golds, 10 silvers, and 11 bronzes. In 2024, she set a Paralympic record in the 100m freestyle S2. After losing left arm mobility in 2023, she adapted to swim with one arm, earning a bronze in the 50m backstroke S2 at Paris 2024. Beyond swimming, she's a physiotherapist, motivational speaker, and former politician. Perales has authored several books, including “Mi vida sobre ruedas (My life on wheels)” (2007), and received the 2021 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports. She aims to compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
