About Aja Evans
Aja Evans has successfully made the transition from college track & field athlete to bobsledding star. Evans is a brakeman for the U.S. bobsled team and won a bronze medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics. She has also medaled in a World Cup event. Evans has achieved this success despite never participating in bobsledding until 2012. She competed in track at both UNLV and Illinois, starring for the Illini. Evans won a five-time All-American and three-time Big 10 Champion. She went to the Olympic Trials in 2008 as a shot putter. The sports switch Evans made could perhaps have been predicted when one looks at her family background. Her father was the first African-American national college swimming champion at Chicago State. Evans brother is a veteran NFL defensive lineman. The father-son baseball duo of Gary Matthews and Gary Matthews Jr. is also her relatives. Evans is currently training with her eyes set on medaling at the 2016 Summer and 2018 Winter Olympics.
