About Teddy Atlas
Teddy Atlas is a current boxing trainer and boxing announcer. He has trained multiple successful boxers, including Mike Tyson, Barry McGuigan, Alexander Povetkin, and Michael Moorer. Atlas worked with Hall of Famer Cus D’Amato, originally being trained by him in his short lived amateur boxing career, then working with him as an assistant trainer. Early in his training career, Atlas helped D’Amato train a young Mike Tyson, but was dismissed from the D’Amato camp after threatening Mike Tyson with a gun following an alleged sexual assault against one of Atlas’s relatives. After his departure, Atlas would experience his greatest success as a trainer with heavyweight Michael Moorer. In his most famous fight as a trainer, Atlas and his client Moorer would go on to defeat Evander Holyfield for the Heavyweight title in 1994. Aside from training, Atlas is a current broadcaster for ESPN, and has served as announcer for the boxing portion of the last four Olympics.
