Tatiana Gutsu

Tatiana Gutsu is the first Ukrainian female gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal and raise the Ukrainian flag and anthem in the history of the Olympic Games during the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona. Hailing from Odesa, Ukraine, formerly of the Soviet Union, she began gymnastics at age six and joined the USSR national team in 1988. She is renowned for her high-difficulty routines and was a standout during the "pixie" era of gymnastics, performing complex skills like a double-twisting Yurchenko vault, a split-leg double layout on the floor, and a beam dismount sequence of three back handsprings into a tucked full-in.

Her first major international competition was the 1991 World Championships in Indianapolis, where she won a team gold and silver medal on uneven bars and balance beam. In 1992, she dominated the European Championships, securing titles in the all-around, vault, and uneven bars and a beam silver. Due to injuries, she retired shortly after the 1992 Olympics and moved to the United States, where she became a gymnastics coach in Michigan. She was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2022.

She now runs the Tatiana Gutsu Gymnastics Academy in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where she continues to coach special stars, youth and adult gymnasts. Gutsu's journey has been featured by The Washington Post, BBC News, ESPN, and on several podcast appearances. Her expertise goes beyond the mat with The Tatiana Gutsu Empowerment Zone program, designed to give one-on-one life coaching motivation to those people looking to achieve their gold medal moment by bringing forth their inner champion at all levels of life. She is also involved in charitable initiatives through the Tatiana Gutsu Foundation, including support for St. Jude Children's Hospital and children in Uganda. Through all her works, she looks to bring a positive and awakening perspective to the audiences she reaches year-round.
