About Shawn Johnson East
Johnson became a true American idol after winning an individual Gold Medal in the balance beam and three silver medals in the individual all-around, floor exercise and team categories at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Since 2008 she has been featured in ad campaigns for McDonald’s, Nike, Cover Girl, and Wheaties in addition to several other endorsements. The 2009 winner of Dancing with the Stars, Johnson was also voted as “America’s Most-Liked Sports Figure” by Forbes magazine that same year.
In 2012 Johnson announced her official retirement from competitive gymnastics. As a multi-talented athlete, author, brand ambassador and author, Johnson has a bright future ahead of her. In 2008 she published her first book, “Shawn Johnson: Olympic Champion,” and followed that up with another book, “Winning Balance,” in 2012. Just 21 years old, she is also a devoted philanthropist, supporting the “Exercise Your Character” program through her speaking engagements.
