Sydney Johnson

Sydney Johnson, an American college basketball coach, is named as one of the top coaches under the age of 40. Born in Michigan in 1974, most of Johnson’s childhood was spent in Baltimore, where he fell in love with the game of basketball and was undoubtedly good at it. His father, albeit did not grow up with him, was one of the first Americans to play professional basketball in France. After verbally committing to Boston University, Johnson revoked is commitment and chose to attend Princeton University in 1993. Johnson’s strong leadership skills were relevant at an early age, captaining Princeton University’s men’s basketball team from 1994-1997 and becoming the only three-time captain in university history. In addition to being named Ivy League Player of the Year in 1997 and setting two Ivy League records due to his exceptional three-point percentage, Johnson went on to become the youngest Ivy League coach in 2007, returning to his alma mater. As the head men’s basketball coach at Princeton University from 2007 to 2011, Johnson led the Tigers to the 2011 Ivy League Title and the NCAA Tournament that year. Throughout his coaching career, Johnson also been an assistant for Georgetown and is currently the head coach at Fairfield University. He has an overall head coaching record of 114-108.
