About Sunny Mehta
Sunny Mehta is an NHL hockey executive and data scientist, currently serving as General Manager of the New Jersey Devils. A lifelong Devils fan who grew up in northern New Jersey, he pioneered the league’s first full-time hockey analytics department as Director of Hockey Analytics for the Devils from 2014 to 2017. Before hockey, Mehta was a professional poker player and co-author of bestselling strategy books, a proprietary options/derivatives trader, a jazz guitarist, and later earned a master’s in data science from CUNY. He worked in analytics/strategy roles with the Washington Capitals and the Florida Panthers, where his insights helped win two Stanley Cups, as well as consulting for MLB teams through Zelus Analytics. His unconventional path blends quantitative expertise with deep hockey passion.
