About Brian Burke
Brian Burke is a former NHL front office executive who served as general manager for six different franchises. Burke is currently the Executive Director of the Professional Women's Hockey League Players Association.
Burke grew up in Rhode Island and he graduated from Providence College in 1977with a degree in history. During his time incollege, Burke played hockey, serving as the team’s captainand eventually playing in the AHL. In 1978, Burke decided to go backto school, attending Harvard LawSchool until graduating in 1981.
Originally a player agent, Burke got his first front office roleas thedirector of hockey operations for the Vancouver Canucks in 1987. 12 years later, Burke returned to theCanucks in aGMrole, reviving the team and even winning a division title. His contract was not renewedafter the 2004 season, and he went tobecome the GM for the Anaheim Ducks, spending two seasonswith the team and winning one Stanley Cup Championship.
Afterresigning from the team in 2008, Burkebecame the president and GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He left to become President of Hockey Operations for the Calgary Flames in 2013, serving in that role until 2018.
