About Stan Van Gundy
Stan Van Gundy is a coach who has had a great deal of success in the NBA. His most recent roles in basketball were as the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans and head coach and president of basketball operations of the Detroit Pistons. Van Gundy’s coaching career began in 1981 when he served as the assistant coach at the University of Vermont. At the collegiate level, Van Gundy also coached Castleton, Canisius, Fordham, UMass Lowell and Wisconsin. Van Gundy made his jump to the NBA in 1995 when he served as an assistant coach to Pat Riley of the Miami Heat. In 2003, Van Gundy was named the head coach of the Miami Heat when Riley resigned as the coach before the 2003-04 season. Van Gundy spent 12 years with the Heat before he took the coaching job with the Orlando Magic. Van Gundy spent 2007-12 with the Magic and during that time he led the franchise to the 2009 NBA Finals and was named the coach of the Eastern Conference All-Star team for the 2010 NBA All-Star Game. After leaving Orlando in 2012, he spent four seasons in Detroit.
