About Shawon Dunston
Shawon Dunston is a retired professional shortstop who played for six different MLB teams in his career. Dunston was considered one of the best shortstop prospects available in the 1992 MLB Draft. The Chicago Cubs selected Dunston as the 1st overall pick in the 1982 MLB Draft. After signing a one-year contract with the Cubs, Dunston was assigned to the Cubs’ Rookie-level minor league affiliate in the Gulf Coast League. Dunston made his MLB debut on April 9, 1985. During his first few appearances, Dunston struggled and was sent back to the minor league. Dunston also played for the San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Cardinals, and New York Mets. He was named a 2x All-Star in 1988, and 1990. Dunston became eligible for the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008, but due to the lack of votes he received, he was dropped off of the ballot. He currently works as a special assistant for the San Francisco Giants.
