Sammy Sosa

Sammy Sosa, formally named Samuel Kelvin Peralta Sosa, contributed his prestigious athletic talent to Major League Baseball for nearly two decades. Sosa was born in the Dominican Republic in 1968 and spent his early years living there with his maternal grandmother. He debuted professionally for the Texas Rangers in 1989 and went on to contribute his talents as a right fielder for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles and again for the Texas Rangers over the course of his professional career. Sosa spent the majority of his time with the Chicago Cubs, during which he became a seven-time All-Star, six-time recipient of the Silver Slugger Award, the National League home run champion and RBI champion twice each, the league’s MVP, a recipient of the Hank Aaron Award and Roberto Clemente Award, along with becoming a Home Run Derby winner. Sosa spent twelve seasons with the Chicago Cubs before being traded to the Baltimore Orioles and again to the Texas Rangers, whom he played his last professional game with in 2007. Throughout his career, Sosa became one of the most widely known players of his time as he represented number 21 on the baseball diamond.
