Sam Torrance

Sam Torrance is most famously known as a professional golfer and sports commentator of Scottish descent. Torrance was born in Scotland in 1953 and picked up golf at a very young age. He debuted professionally at the age of 17 and became one of the leading players on the European Tour for over two decades. From the mid 1970’s to the late ’90’s, Torrance amassed a total of 21 professional tour wins. After achieving his first professional win two years after his debut, Torrance was named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. He finished in the top 10 on the European Tour ten times and his best finish was a second place finish in both 1984 and 1995. He currently holds the record for the most career appearances on the European Tour and even played for Europe in the Ryder Cup eight times. After retiring from the sport with a countless number of awards and achievements, Torrance went on to pursue a broadcasting career. He continues to surround himself with his passion for the sport of golf as he serves as a commentator for BBC Sport golf coverage.
