About Ryan Walter
Ryan Walter had a successful 15 year playing career and has stayed in the hockey world in various roles upon retirement. The Washington Capitals originally selected Walter in the second round of the 1978 NHL Draft. He was the youngest player in NHL history to be named a team captain during his second season in the league. Walter spent the majority of his career with the Montreal Canadiens and won a Stanley Cup in 1986. He was always a leader on and off the ice, winning the NHL Man of the Year Award while with the Vancouver Canucks and NHL Players Association vice president. Following retirement, Walter was a TV analyst for TSN and then the Canucks. He has also been an assistant coach in Vancouver and the head coach of the Canadian women’s hockey team in 2010. Walter is currently the President of the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat, on the board of directors for the Hockey Canada Foundation, and on the Seton Hall Stillman School of Business Leadership Advisory Council. He is an author of five books and speaks to groups all over the world.
