About Rudy Ruettiger
Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger is the inspiration for the 1993 movie Rudy, which is widely considered one of the top sports movies of all time. Rudy's story begins in Joliet, IL where the 5'6" hardnosed high schooler led his team in tackles but suffered in the classroom. Following high school, he joined the Navy for two years before returning home to work in the local power plant for another 2. His inspirational story takes place at the University of Notre Dame where after several semesters he was able to enroll and was awarded a walk-on sport to the Fighting Irish Football Team. Rudy was a hard worker and was rewarded for it in the final game of his ND career by Dan Devine who let the senior dress and eventually got him into the game for the final series where he recorded a sack. Following his college graduation, Rudy went on to a career as a motivational speaker where he is still one of the most sought-after speakers.
