About Roy White
Roy White had a Major League Baseball career as left fielder for the New York Yankees from 1965-1979. White was a switch hitting threat at the plate who was also one of the best defensive left fielders in the game during his career. He led all left fielders in fielding percentage for 4 consecutive seasons from 68-71. White was named to 2 All-Star teams throughout his career and in 1971 he set the MLB record for most sacrifice flies in a season with 17. A 2x World Champion for the Yankees, White retired from the MLB in 1979 and moved to Tokyo to play in the Japanese Baseball League for a brief stint. He spent several seasons with the Yankees as an assistant coach throughout the 1980s and returned to them again in 2004 as the teams first base coach. In 2003 he started the Roy White Foundation to help inner-city youth in the New York area who would like to attend college but are unable to financially.
