About Ron Hextall
Ron Hextall began his professional hocket career with the Philadelphia Flyers as a member of both their IHL and AHL farm teams. After impressive seasons in the lower levels, Hextall was called up to the Flyers after two seasons and as a rookie he was awarded the Vazina Trophy as the NHLs top goaltender. He went on to play 11 seasons with the Flyers as their starting goaltender and still holds many franchise records for the team. He got off to a hot start to his career after an incredible rookie campaign but during the middle seasons of his career he became hampered by injuries. After brief stints with the Quebec Nordiques and the New York Islanders, Hextalls career found new life when he was traded back to his former team. Hextall is known for becoming the first goalkeeper to ever score a goal in an NHL game and the following season he also became the first to score in a postseason game. He was known for his willingness, and sometimes eagerness to come out of the net and help defend as one of the most aggressive goalkeepers in NHL history.
