About Ron Blomberg
In high school, Ron Blomberg is the only player to even be named to the Parade All-America teams in football, basketball, and baseball. He received over 100 scholarships to play basketball but was drafted by the Yankees in the 1967 MLB Draft and signed a contract to play professional baseball. After 4 years in the minors, Blomberg joined the Yankees full time as a first baseman. In 1973, Blomberg became the first player in MLB History to record an at-bat as a designated hitter. Blomberg went on to play a final season with the Chicago White Sox and in 1979 he stepped away from the game for good, ending his career with a .294 batting average with 52 home runs. After his playing days were over, he spent some time managing in the Israel Baseball League before becoming a scout for the Yankees.
