Paul Johnson

Paul Johnson is the head football coach at Georgia Tech. Johnson graduated from Western Carolina University in 1979, and immediately began his coaching career as an offensive coordinator at Lee-McRae College in 1981. Johnson would then go on to become the offensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Georgia Southern until leaving in 1987 to be offensive coordinator at the University of Hawaii. The Hawaii offense was considered one of the best under Johnson’s control, as they had great success during his tenure. In 1997, Johnson returned to Georgia Southern to serve as their head coach, leading them to multiple I-AA National Championships with a record of 62-10 in just four seasons. Johnson then left Georgia Southern to become the head coach at Navy, where he implemented the triple option offense, a staple of any offense he coaches today. He led Navy to their first winning season in 14 years, all while scoring the most points in Navy history. In 2008, Johnson was named the head coach at Georgia Tech, where his option offense wreaks havoc among the ACC, but has ironically produced top wide receiving talent. He has led the Yellow Jackets to four ACC title games and one ACC championship, and continues to have success to this day.
