About Niele Ivey
Niele Ivey is the head coach of Notre Dame women’s basketball and a former WNBA player. A standout point guard for the Fighting Irish from 1996 to 2001, she led the team to its first NCAA championship in 2001 and earned All-America honors. Selected 19th overall in the 2001 WNBA Draft, Ivey played five seasons with the Indiana Fever, Detroit Shock, and Phoenix Mercury. After retiring, she joined Notre Dame’s coaching staff, contributing to multiple Final Four appearances and the 2018 national title. In 2019, she was an assistant coach for the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies before returning to Notre Dame as head coach in 2020. Under her leadership, the Irish have secured ACC titles and NCAA Tournament berths, with Ivey earning ACC Coach of the Year honors in 2023. She is also the mother of NBA player Jaden Ivey.
