Munetaka Murakami is a star infielder for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). A left-handed batter, he started playing at age five and excelled at Kyushu Gakuin High School. Drafted first round by the Swallows in 2017, he debuted that year. In 2019, he hit 36 home runs, earning Rookie of the Year. In 2022, at 22, he set a Japanese-born player record with 56 homers, winning the NPB Triple Crown (.318 average, 134 RBIs, .710 slugging) and the Central League MVP award. In the 2023 World Baseball Classic, his walk-off double and homer helped Japan secure gold. He is targeting a 2026 MLB move with interest from the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.
