Mike Powell

Mike Powell is a two-time Olympic Silver Medalist in the long jump, and earned his two medals at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. In addition to those two medals eh also won two World Championships in the Long Jump at the 1991 Tokyo World Championships and 1993 Stuttgart World Championships. In 1995 he followed those performances up by winning a bronze at the Gothenburg World Championships. Powell put his name on the map in 1991 when he broke the world record in the long jump at the Tokyo World Championships, posting an 8.95-meter jump. His record still stands to this day, making him one of very few athletes to hold a world record for more than 20 years. Powell retired after the 1996 Olympic games, and has gone on to become an analyst for Yahoo! Sports coverage of the Olympic Track and Field events. Since that time he’s broken the world master’s record in the long jump, and continues to be a valuable ambassador for the sport around the world.
