About Mike Joy
Mike Joy is an American sports announcer and broadcaster. He has been renowned as the lead play-by-play announcer for Fox Sports’ NASCAR coverage since 2001. A native of Chicago, Joy attended the University of Hartford and Emerson College. He began his career in the 1970s as a public address announcer at Riverside Park Speedway in Massachusetts. In 1977, he joined the Motor Racing Network, covering several events, and began television work with ESPN in 1981. By 1983, he was a pit reporter for CBS.
He’s called 45 Daytona 500s across the various networks he’s worked at. Outside of the booth, Joy is an avid sports car racer and has competed in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. Beyond the track, Joy has covered college football and the Winter Olympics and is an expert analyst for collector car auctions.
In 2011, he received the Henry T. McLemore Award for excellence in sports journalism. He currently resides near Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with his wife, with whom he has two children.
