Mike Holmgren

Mike Holmgren got his start in big time college football as the quarterback at the University of Southern California. During his time at USC he helped lead the Trojans to an NCAA National Championship in 1967 and earned his undergraduate degree in 1970. Upon graduation he was selected in the 8th round of the 1970 NFL Draft, but decided to pursue a coaching career instead due to a knee injury. In 1971 he returned to his alma mater, Lincoln High School, as the offensive coordinator and went on to coach at Sacred Heart High School and Oak Grove High School from 1972 to 1980. In 1981 he got his start in college coaching when he was hired as the offensive coordinator at San Francisco State University, and went on to coach quarterbacks at Brigham Young University from 1982 to 1985 before catching on in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers in 1986. Holmgren served as the quarterback’s coach with the 49ers from 1986 to 1988 and then moved up to offensive coordinator in 1989. In 1992 he landed his first head-coaching job with the Green Bay Packers and went on to lead them to a Super Bowl Title in 1996. After seven seasons with the Packers he was hired as the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, where he coached 10 seasons from 1999 to 2008.
