About Mia Fishel
Mia Fishel is a rising soccer star for Chelsea FC in the Women’s Super League and the U.S. Women’s National Team. Nicknamed “Big Fish” for her competitive edge and love of sportfishing, the 5’7” striker has carved a remarkable path in soccer despite a career-altering injury. Growing up in San Diego, she went on to UCLA, where she majored in psychology. She scored 32 goals in 59 games, leading the Bruins to two back-to-back Pac-12 titles and earning All-America honors.
Fishel bypassed the NWSL after being drafted fifth overall by the Orlando Pride in 2022, signing with Tigres UANL in Mexico’s Liga MX Femenil. Her decision, driven by dissatisfaction with the NWSL Draft and Tigres’ professional setup, paid off when she won the 2022 Apertura Golden Boot with 17 goals, leading Tigres to a championship and earning global recognition as the IFFHS top scorer with 33 goals. In 2023, she joined Chelsea FC, but a torn ACL in February 2024 sidelined her from the 2024 Paris Olympics and limited her WSL impact, though she earned a league medal.
Fishel’s international resume includes CONCACAF titles at U-15, U-17, and U-20 levels, with a record-setting 13 goals at the 2020 U-20 Championship. She debuted for the USWNT in 2023, scoring against Colombia. Off the field, Fishel authored a children’s book, “BIG FISH” (2024), and advocates for women’s soccer by pioneering moves to international leagues.
